Momentum is a training fund set up in 2012 by the Irish Government to allow private training providers provide innovative training to the long term unemployed in conjunction with FAS and the Department of Social Protection.  In phase 1 of Momentum, which is still ongoing, the Swilly Group has successfully rolled out training courses in Healthcare Support
(specialising in Intellectual Disabilities), Computer Networking and Maintenance and Export and Transport Management
.

The new Fuel Efficient Truck and Bus/Coach Driver programmes are specifically designed to allow persons who are long term unemployed acquire the skills, knowledge and receive job seeking support to secure employment as a truck or bus driver.
The courses syllabus includes Initial Driver CPC training, pre-test driving lessons, RoSPA Advanced Driver Training,
Fuel Efficient Driver Training and Job Seeking Support
.  The Truck Driver course also includes ADR Driver Training and the Bus/Coach Driver course includes Occupational First Aid and Customer Service training.  A 12 week work placement module is also included in both programmes.
Swilly Group Managing Director Brian Sweeney said, “We are delighted to secure this additional funding for both the Truck and Bus/Coach Driver programmes”.  “We will be starting a Truck and Bus Course in October in both Letterkenny and Dublin”. Brian continues, “The Swilly Group is one of the largest providers of training under Momentum and the Fuel Efficient Truck and Bus/Coach Driver courses are the only driving courses that have been funded under Momentum in the country”.  “Our success has been largely due to the fact that we engaged with local employers during the tendering stage and built the
programmes to meet their specific needs”. “Furthermore, each of our courses involves an extended period of work placement, which gives the learner an opportunity to demonstrate to an employer that they can add value to their organisation”.
Persons interested in applying for the Fuel Efficient Bus/Coach Driver course or the Fuel Efficient Truck Driver course can do so by contacting their local Department of Social Protection Office or by calling the  Swilly Group office directly on (074) 91 51212.
