
Introduction
Instructors at Swilly Group have been delivering beginner, pre-test and advanced driving tuition since 1975. The company has been training driving instructors since 1990 and has a fleet of vehicles that will allow trainees complete their ADI exams in a car, bus or lorry (Rigid or Artic).
The Swilly Group Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) course is delivered in three stages with the trainees completing the RSA driving instructor exams at the end of each stage. Successful trainees will obtain a QQI level 6 RSA Approved Driving Instructor qualification.
Entry Requirements
Trainees are expected to hold a full driving licence in the categories they wish to teach in for at least two years. They must be of good repute, tax compliant and will be garda vetted as part of the RSA application process.
The Qualification Process
Stage 1 – Theory Test
The purpose of this test is to examine knowledge of the Rules of the Road as well as general road safety and driving instruction matters.
Swilly Group Instructors will provide 6 online evening classes via ZOOM to support trainees completing Stage 1 of the Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) theory test.
Stage 2 – Driving Test
Having successfully completed the theory test, stage two will assess driving ability. Driving competence will be assessed against a longer more comprehensive driving test to that which applies to a learner driver. The test will last approximately one to one and a half hours depending on the category being applied for.
Swilly Group Instructors will provide a minimum of 12 hours of in-vehicle driving tuition to trainees in Swilly Group vehicles across multiple licence categories.
Stage 3 – Instruction Ability Test
Stage three examines the ability of the ADI candidate to deliver instruction to a leaner driver. The RSA examiner will role play as the learner under instruction. There are two phases to the instruction ability test; Phase 1 will examine ability to instruct at an appropriate level for a beginner. Phase two will also examine ability to instruct at a pre-test driver level.
Swilly Group Instructors will provide a minimum of 12 hours of in-vehicle Instruction ability tuition to trainees in Swilly Group vehicles across multiple licence categories.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the Swilly Group Driving Instructor training course will sit the RSA stage 1, 2 and 3 examinations. If successful the trainee will obtain a QQI level 6 RSA Approved Driving Instructor qualification.
