The “NEW” Early Childhood Care and Professional Pedagogy Skills programme involves the integration of the FETAC level 5 Childcare Assistant qualification with the Professional Pedagogy Project (PPP) recently delivered by the Donegal County Childcare Committee Ltd (DCCC) to Crèches across Donegal.
The Swilly Group has worked closely with DCCC and a number of childcare employers to develop this cutting edge programme that will provide learners with excellent employment opportunities in this sector. The aim of the programme is to provide learners with the NEW and advances skills and knowledge in the provision early childhood care. The Professional Pedagogy Project involves a mentoring and support programme for learners while they implement new and revolutionary child learning and play techniques in a childcare facility.
Course Contents
The course will cover the following core elements:
- Child Development
- Child Health & Well-Being
- Childminding Practice
- Children with Additional Needs
- Communications Form
- Early Care & Education Practice Form
- Early Childhood Education and Play
- Work Practice (Mentoring and Support through Professional Pedagogy Project)
The learners will complete integrated work placement over 20 weeks in a Creche, Montessori School or early learning centre. The will also receive mentoring and support from an approved DCCC mentors as part of the NEW Professional Pedagogy Project. Learners will experience the implementation of cutting edge early child care learning and development techniques in a busy child care environment.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Momentum programme you must meet the following criteria:
- Be unemployed for 12 months or longer and
- Be in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit or be signing on for Social Insurance Contribution Credits for 12 months or longer and
- Be actively seeking work.
You must apply through Employment Services at the Department of Social Protection to confirm your eligibility and get assistance in identifying a suitable project.
