With over 100,000 goods and passenger transport vehicles operating in Ireland on a daily basis, there is an increasing demand for bus and coach drivers. The Swilly Group has worked closely with a number of major employers in the passenger transport industry to develop this cutting edge programme. The Coach Driver with Guiding programme is designed to allow the learner to obtain the Coach licence and gain the necessary skills and knowledge to plan and deliver short guiding tours.

Course Contents

The course will cover the following core elements:

  • Bus/Coach Driving Licence (RSA)
  • Driver CPC Card (RSA)
  • Occupational First Aid (FETAC)
  • Certificate in Advanced Driving (RoSPA)
  • Fuel Efficient Driving
  • Customer Service (FETAC)
  • Introduction to Guiding* (FETAC)

The learners will complete 10 weeks of work placement in a passenger transport company where they will gain experience in driving passenger carrying vehicles. They will also experience the day to day operations and work environment within such a company.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a Momentum programme you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be unemployed for 12 months or longer and
  2. Be in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit or be signing on for Social Insurance Contribution Credits for 12 months or longer and
  3. Be actively seeking work.

You must apply through Employment Services at the Department of Social Protection to confirm your eligibility and get assistance in identifying a suitable project.

* This is not a Bord Failte / Failte Ireland guiding qualification but an introduction to the principles of good Guiding practice.
