Transport Manager’s CPC Course

Q1.        How long does the Transport Managers CPC course last?

The Swilly Group delivers over 100 hours of online training.  Learners are required to attend at least 75% of the classes.  Learners are also expected to do between 6-10 hours of self-study each week during the course.  The Swilly Group offers PART-TIME and a FULL-TIME online course options for the Transport Managers CPC.

The PART TIME Transport Managers CPC runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 10pm, along with a number of Saturdays.  We also include a full week of revision before the CPC exams.

The FULL TIME Transport Managers CPC runs on Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm for three weeks.  The three weeks are delivered over a 6-week period, allowing learners the time for self-study.

Q2.        What price in the Transport Managers CPC course with Swilly Group?

Additionally, the cost of the Transport Managers CPC Exams is €285. This is payable to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) when applying for the exams.

Q3.        What is the pass rate for the Swilly Group Transport Managers CPC course?

Learners who complete the Transport Managers CPC course with Swilly Group have an excellent chance of passing the CPC exams.  In the last exams, 23 of 25 of the learners passed the exams on the first attempt.

THIRTEEN of the learners obtained a mark of 80% or higher in paper 1 or paper 2 and NINE of the learners achieved a mark of 90% or above.

 Q4.        Is the Transport Managers CPC Course delivered ONLINE or in a Classroom?

The Swilly Group Transport Managers CPC course is 100% online.  The allows learners to attend the course from the comfort of their own home anywhere in Ireland.   On our last course, we had learners from nine different counties including Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Meath, Kildare, Mayo and Donegal.  We also had a learner log in from Germany to complete our online Transport Managers Course last year.

The Swilly Group uses an online leaners platform that gives Learner’s access to hundreds of sample questions and past exam papers, recordings of the weekly lectures and copies of the course training materials.

The Learners have access to the Transport Managers CPC course until after the CPC examinations.  The CPC exams are completed in person at a CILT approved examination centre in Dublin, Galway or Cork.

Q5.        Do I need a Transport Managers CPC to apply for a Haulage Licence?

When applying to the Department of Transport for a Haulage Licence (also known as a Freight Licence or an Operator Licence), a transport manager must be nominated on the application form.  The person nominated as the Transport Manager in the Operator Licence application must have completed the Transport Managers Course and passed the Haulage Transport Managers CPC exams.

Q6.        Do I need a Transport Managers CPC to apply for a Bus Operator Licence?

When applying to the Department of Transport for a Bus Operator Licence (also known as a Passenger Transport Licence or an Operator Licence), a transport manager must be nominated on the application form.  The person nominated as the Transport Manager in the Operator Licence application must have completed the Transport Managers Course and passed the Passenger Transport Managers CPC exams.

Q7.        What criteria must my business meet when applying for a Haulage Operator Licence or a Passenger Operator Licence?

There are three criteria  a business must satisfy when applying for an Operator Licence.  They are as follows:

  • Good Repute
  • Financial Standing
  • Professional Competence

Q8.        How does an Operator satisfy the Professional Competence criterium when applying for an Operator Licence?

In order to satisfy the professional competence criterium, a Haulage business or a Passenger Transport business must nominate a Transport Manager on their application to the Department of Transport.  The nominated Transport Manager must have the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Haulage Transport Management or the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Passenger Transport Management respectively.

Q9.        Are the Transport Manager CPC exams difficult to pass?

The Transport Managers CPC exams are not difficult exams to pass. Learners are required to put in an average of 6 to 10 hours of self-study each week as well as attending the online classes.

The Transport Managers CPC exams are open book exams.  This means you are permitted to take the CPC course manuals into the exam.

Q10.      Is it possible to obtain both the Haulage and Passenger Transport Managers CPC qualifications?

It is possible to sit both the Haulage and the Passenger Transport Manager CPC exams in the December and June exam sittings.
